Summary of Winter Kuaripass Trek :: The trek over the Kuari Pass was the route followed by Shipton and Tilman on their way to the Rishi Gorge and by other mountaineers en route to the peaks on the Indo-Tibetan border. It is also called the Curzon Trail, as the famous former Viceroy of India also travelled this route. The trail was named after Lord Curzon who was a keen trekker and it is said that the path was specially improved so that he could do the trek. The crossing of the pass is a fitting conclusion to a trek that takes in three lesser passes and five major rivers - the Pindar, Kaliganga, Mandakini, Bheriganga and the Dhauliganga.

You get truly spectacular views of the Himalayas - Trishul (23,496 ft/7,120 m) o Kedarnath (22,994 ft/6,968 m), Kamet's pyramid of granite (25,595 ft/7,756 m), Nilkanth (21,767 ft/6,596 m), the square-topped summits of Gori Parbat and Hathi Parbat, Badrinath, the icy crest of Dunagiri, Rishikot, Changabang (22,651 ft/6,864 m), Kedarnath and Chowkhamba (23,522 ft/7,128 m) and the legendary twin peaks of Nanda Devi, (25,643 ft/7,740 m), surrounded by an awesome 19,800-foot (6,000 m) wall which forms a sanctuary.

Full Trekking Program 2016 - 2017 Season ::

Day 1: Haridwar - Joshimath :: When you arrive at Haridwar in the morning, you will be picked up at the Railway station at around 7 a.m. and the journey begins from here to Joshimath on a Tata Sumo/ Qualis for 265 kms. We get to traverse through the picturesque valley of Devprayag, Rudrapryag, Karnaprayag – part of the Pancha Prayag of Uttarakhand. Karn Prayag is the place where Alaknanda River is joined by the Pindar River that originates from the Pindar glacier, below the Nanda Devi hill range. At Rudra Prayag, the Alaknanda meets the Mandakini River. Dev Prayag is the confluence of the two holy rivers, the Bhagirathi - the chief stream of the Ganges and the Alaknanda. Beyond this confluence, the river is known as Ganges. We will have Breakfast and lunch on the way at the local eateries. What better way to taste the local cuisine ! At the end of the day, we spend the night in guest house.

Day 2: Joshimath – Chitrakhana :: We will have early morning breakfast and then drive to Dhak village. From Dhak we will start the 6 km trek to lower Chitrakhana. After climbing a steep hill, the valley slowly transforms into an overhanging cliff which shelters a local deity and the terrain changes from green pastures with trees to a drier terrain. The trek continues to climb to the village of Tugasi village where we will pack lunch enroute. We finally trek our way to Chitrakhana, have dinner & overnight camping.

Day 03: Chitrakhana - Tali Top :: We begin the trek in the morning through lush green vegetation with Mt. Nanda Devi and Mt. Doonagiri looming in the distance. Mt. Nanda Devi is the second highest mountain in India. The trek is 4 hours and 6 km long and gets strenuous from this point. We will camp in an alpine meadow at the head of the Tali Top which lies on the North Face of Mt. Nanda Devi. We will rest for the evening in tents.

Day 04: Tali top - Khullar - Kuari pass and back to Tali :: day 4 can be considered the challenging segment of the whole trip with 8km to trek over a span of 4 hours. This will test your endurance and stamina but it is all worth the sweat and struggle as the experience is unmatched when you reach the Kuari pass. The view from the top is breath taking with snow capped mountains all around. After this sojourn with the Kuari pass we trek back to the camp for night stay.

Day 05: Tali - Joshimath via Auli ::After the tryst with snow capped mountains, day 05 is the day to head back to where we had all started. The return trek to Joshimath begins from now. En route we will get views of the route leading to the famous Nanda Devi sanctuary, along the Rishi Ganga. The surrounding Nanda Devi National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a gradual descent to Auli down through woods and pastures. We will finally reach our destination where our vehicle is waiting to pick us up and drop us back to Joshimath.

Day 06: Joshimath - Haridwar :: From Joshimath, we will head back to Haridwar. Here comes end to one of the most mesmerizing unforgettable treks you will have for a long time.

Trip end up here.
